  • Field House - a history

Cowlane Orchard, behind Vicarage at the end of Church Lane.

    Camera facing S.

Funds did not allow this survey to include new houses and estates as originally planned, but three exceptions were made - to illustrate replacement of old property demolished, (see 'Tudor Cottages - a history'), the enterprise and skill of a Mickleton couple, (see 'Grey Gables - a history), and the successful use of synthetic material combined with good design and careful workmanship which this house shows.

    Completed 1975.  Bradstone.  Roof - Bradstone random roofing.  2 s[torey].  Gabled dormer, window below eaves.  2 - 3 - and 4 - light mullions.

The architect was Stanhope C Hodson, Dip Arch (Leics) ARIBA, of Chipping Campden, and building and roofing were done by the local Mickleton builder.  Stone has become an unattainable ideal as a building material except in special areas and often a sythetic has to be used; this example shows that design and workmanship can together produce a house which blends peacefully with its surroundings.

  • Field House, Church Lane

Field House was completed in 1975, and is in the field behind the old vicarage known as Cowlane orchard.
