  • Looking SW up High Street

    May 1975, camera facing SW.

Another photograph which shows the importance of trees to the appearance of the village.  On the right is Medford Cottage, now rendered and painted and much altered.

Here again are the pole with wires and the sewage vent pipe, strategically placed this time one at each end of the wall of Medford House which, surely, of all the houses in the district needs no such embellishment!

  • Medford Cottage - date plaque

High St, N side, opposite Medford House

    May 1975, camera facing NE

Date plaque, raised lettering, on S end stone gable end.  Assuming the arrangement of letters indicate it is possible that the following entry in the Marriage Register might relate to the owner of this house:

Perkes, Thomas and Elizabeth Harris, 4.2.1671.

Glos Parish Registers, Marriages. Vol III Phillimore, 1898)

Edward Perkes, Gent, was another of those summoned from this Parish by the Heralds in 1682 and 1683 and there was still someone of this name living in the village in 1698 according to the Estate map.
